From 1 February 2017, the rules governing heavy vehicle size, weight operation limits are changing.

You can now read the revised Rule(external link) - please remember it is not in force until 1 February 2017.

The Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Dimensions and Mass 2002 (the VDAM Rule) specifies requirements for dimension and mass limits for vehicles operating on New Zealand roads. The Rule also balances the risks that heavy vehicles present to other road users and their impact on the road infrastructure, against the need to allow the heavy vehicle fleet to optimise operations.

The proposed changes to the VDAM Rule would encourage trucking and bus companies to import newer, safer, more innovative and environmentally responsible vehicles, while maintaining safety for all road users. On Friday 8 July 2016 the Associate Minister of Transport Craig Foss released the ‘yellow draft’ of the VDAM Rule with preferred proposals for consultation.
