Transport Minister Gerry Brownlee announced today that the Clifford Bay ferry terminal will not proceed and that Picton will remain the South Island ferry terminal.

The outcome of the commercial viability study found that revenue available from the ferry operators and major freight users of Clifford Bay would only pay for about half the estimated development cost. The government would have to pay the other half and carry project risk.
